SOCIAL and sporting history are going under the hammer over the coming months as the Rockmount looks to sell off its collection of memorabilia before it closes its doors in January.
SOCIAL and sporting history are going under the hammer over the coming months as the Rockmount looks to sell off its collection of memorabilia before it closes its doors in January.
Silent auction bids are being taken for the treasure trove of signed sporting pictures, shirts, gloves and bats, among other items. Jamie Nussbaumer, director of Nutree Ltd – which currently runs the pub – said it will be sad to see the collection distributed, but he is happy they will be going to regular customers.
'It is a collection built up over a lifetime.
'Customers over the years have picked things out and donated them, or we have bought them ourselves. This is a chance for people to own a little bit of history.
'But it will be sad to see it go.'
The collection currently adorns the walls of the pub. As the final pints are being pulled over the coming months, customers and other interested parties are being asked to place bids for their favourite pieces. And, Mr Nussbaumer said, they are not confined to local sporting legends.
