POLITICIANS need to engage more with younger islanders, students at the College of Further Education have said.

And three States members who attended an informal discussion and debate with the group of teenagers and young adults yesterday, agreed there should be more interaction.

The session was organised as part of @TheStates initiative, which is sponsored by the Ana Leaf Foundation, and the students' tutorial programme.

A group of 11 art and design students had the opportunity to discuss issues ranging from the 11-plus to transport and buses.

Hannah Archard, 20, found the session with Deputies Matt Fallaize, Yvonne Burford and Barry Brehaut very helpful, but added that more should be arranged.

'It was really interesting and I think it makes politics more accessible,' she said. 'I think it helped to break down the walls between the States and us.'

She did not believe that young people were well represented in the States.
