A BOY with a life-limiting heart condition began the countdown to Christmas last night by switching on the Rotary Tree of Joy.
Jake Guy, seven, has had open-heart surgery three times, after being born with a significant cardiac defect.
His heartbeat is entirely dependent on a pacemaker and had to spend six weeks in hospital earlier this year after developing septicemia and endocarditis – the inflammation of the inside lining of the heart chambers and heart valves.
He was given the honour of switching on the lights at the Weighbridge roundabout because of the brave way he has dealt with such a tough year.
'It was so exciting and I felt very special,' the Hautes Capelles student said. 'I think it looks really nice and I can't wait to put our tree up at home now.'
Jake's mum Holly, 27, said she was very proud of her son.
