THIS year's Channel Islands Christmas Lottery jackpot now stands at a record-breaking £770,000.

The previous record set was in 2011 when the first prize stood at £751,500.

A Culture and Leisure spokesperson said tickets had been selling very well. 'We would strongly urge anyone who wants to be in with a chance of winning what could be a life-changing amount of money to make sure they get their tickets early so they have a good range of numbers,' he said.

The Association of Guernsey Charities distributes the money raised through the lottery to local good causes.

Association of Guernsey Charities vice-chairman Malcolm Woodhams said the jackpot was likely to rise.

'This is certainly going to be a very good Christmas for the lucky winner,' he said.

'With two weeks to go until the big draw we would like to thank everyone who has bought tickets so far.

'As the new top prize will most likely increase again as the draw date gets closer, local charities are set to benefit even more which will be fantastic news for all who give their time to good causes.'
