FLYBE is scrapping its red-eye flight to Southampton.

The airline released its summer schedule yesterday, revealing the first flight from Guernsey will not arrive in the UK until after 9am.

The change follows the news that the company was pulling its crew base from the island, meaning that planes will be based in the UK rather than Guernsey.

The first aircraft flying into the island from the south coast airport will now arrive earlier – at 8am – but this means the first flight out will not depart until 8.25am, arriving at 9.05am.

Evening flights are similarly curtailed. Currently the last flight arrives in Guernsey at 8.35pm. But the new timetable means it will depart the UK at 7pm and arrive at 7.45pm.

The last flight to Southampton will move back, however, from a 6.45pm take-off to 8.10pm. The changes are likely to cause problems for day-trippers to the UK, who will have nearly two hours cut off their visit, as well as business travellers who need to be in the UK by 9am.
