London City route bid warmly welcomed by business leaders
LONDON City Airport offers extra choice for travellers and is a useful addition to Guernsey's air routes, business leaders have said in the wake of Aurigny's route application.
After Aurigny announced it had applied to run a twice-daily service between here and the central London airport, business leaders have warmly welcomed the proposal.
Head of the External Transport Group Paul Luxon said adding another route to and from the island could only be good news.
The States-owned airline said it hoped to start operating the flights in May if its application to the Commerce and Employment Department is successful,
Commercial director Malcolm Coupar said that approval would mean the airline could offer an 'unprecedented nine flights a day' into the London market across three airports.
'We foresee our passengers using London City in combination with our other high frequency London services to maximise the time they spend productively and minimise the time they spend travelling.'
Confederation of Guernsey Industry director Larry Granger agreed the move would be of benefit to islanders, travellers and potentially to Aurigny itself.
