Some 18 residents should be moved to the Lighthouse Ward at La Corbinerie, on the PEH site, by the end of the month in readiness for the hospital's closure after 112 years.

Shona Pearson has worked at the KE VII for 28 years and has been matron for the last 10.

'Today is really a celebration to give patients, their families and friends the chance to say goodbye,' she said.

Service users from the St Luke's Day Centre, which will also be moving, were invited to yesterday's event.

A staff party will be held in March.
