'Most Blanchelande parents against co-education'

THE majority of parents of current secondary pupils at Blanchelande College are against it admitting boys, the principal has said.

But Andrew Warren, pictured, added that parents from its feeder schools were strongly in favour of the move.

Mr Warren said one of parents' major concerns was that the school's ethos – to offer a stimulating curriculum in a supportive community – would change.

'But the ethos is based on the quality of the relationship inside the school – between parents, teachers and pupils,' he said.

'There are any number of Catholic schools in the UK which are co-educational, which you can go into and see the same kind of ethos.'

There has been no secondary Catholic education for boys in the island since St Joseph's closed in the early 1980s.

The controversial decision was announced yesterday.
