It is the seventh Ian Brown's Cycle Shop event, in which riders cycle for one hour each day for 30 days. The previous six challenges have raised a combined £350,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice, but owner Ian Brown hoped this year they would be able to break the £400,000 mark.

'The 30/30 Challenge is a much bigger challenge and attracts riders who go that extra mile in both physical endeavour and fundraising for Les Bourgs.

'The Guernsey public has always been very generous, but we want to be realistic and are looking to raise another £50,000.'

Each year riders taking part have worn a different-coloured jersey. This year they will be adorned in red. It will be the fourth time Blue Diamond Group employee Shona Sarre has taken part. 'I just really appreciate the need for the hospice on the island,' the 36-year-old said.

'I know lots of people that have died there, including my dad, and it is run entirely on donations so this is just a great way to raise money .'

The event starts on Saturday 26 April at 8am from St Emilion Café.
