Primary pupils are inspired by being chosen for baton relay

PRIMARY school pupils spoke yesterday of how lucky they felt when the Commonwealth Games baton visited. schools yesterday.

During assemblies, a video of all the nations and territories to which it has travelled it has been to was shown. There was also an opportunity to ask questions of local athletes who are heading to the Games, as well as getting to hold the baton.

The occasion was particularly special for La Houguette Year 6 pupil Emily Bray, 10. She has cystic fibrosis and sometimes has to go into hospital for treatment for the condition.

She has been there for almost two weeks but came out yesterday morning, just in time to hold the baton.

'My favourite part was the baton,' said Emily, who also also does gymnastics, trampolining and swimming.

'It was 100/100.'

Year 5 teacher Collette Watts said the students were interested in what is in the Queen's message, which will be carried in the baton until the opening ceremony.
