Yesterday, islanders flocked to Saumarez Park for the event.

Some planned to run the whole 5km route, while others were going to jog, walk and even dance their way to the finish line.

Pink could be seen everywhere, with some wearing sparkly wigs, others in tutus and some wearing home-made pink T-shirts.

There was a moment of silence before the Zumba warm-up began, for participants to reflect and remember those for whom they were doing it.

Sarah-Jane Winding, area event manager for the south, said that 1,300 people had signed up online prior to the event, but many more came along and signed up on the day.

'It is such a beautiful venue and the sunshine has added to the atmosphere,' she said.

'It is nice to have people of all ages here and it means that some people can take part as a family.'

She said the aim was for £50,000 to be raised from islanders' participation. Last year, 1,000 women took part and raised £45,000.
