The annual match pits deputies head to head and this year's was held at the KGV playing fields.

Team manager Deputy Mary Lowe hoped the local deputies would be able to run rings around their counterparts and bring the trophy home, and they did. 'This is equal to the Muratti. We have got 11 top players here and this is serious,' Deputy Lowe joked.

'They should not have tweeted they were bringing the trophy for a day out. It is nice to see so many people here, there is a lot of banter on and off the pitch.'

Last year was overcast for the match when it took place in Jersey, but under blue skies the match went ahead at the KGV, and after a few hours of play the teams were at level-pegging.

Jersey's Senator Paul Routier said: 'We're definitely competitive in the match, but over lunch will have a good chat about inter-island affairs. We try and keep it social and there is a good mix of deputies and senators here.'

The match is sponsored by Investec Asset Management, and UK

The final score was Guernsey 156, 23 overs, 2 wickets. Jersey 155, 30 overs, 5 wickets.
