Cobo Community Centre rebuild needs your help

WORK to build a new community centre that would benefit the whole of the island could start in September if enough islanders get behind a new fundraising appeal.

The Cobo Community Centre committee, in conjunction with the Guernsey Press, is launching the £1m. appeal to try to get what has been described as a 'much-needed' project off the ground. Plans to rebuild the current dilapidated St Matthew's Church Hall have been in motion since 2009.

And permission has been granted for a two-storey centre. But the build will come at a cost of £1.4m.

The committee has so far raised £400,000 but needs at least another £500,000 within the next six weeks to enable work to start.

Colin Guilbert, a director of the LBG company set up to lead the project, said the new centre would serve the whole island from its handy Castel location.
