Head teacher Peter Le Cheminant, teaching colleagues Helen Banks, Jane Allen and Jayne Carter and food technician Michelle Dorey have helped many thousands of pupils over three decades at the school.

The longest serving is mathematics teacher Mrs Allen, who joined in 1978 and became head of the department in 1989 – a position she still occupies on retirement.

'The bit I will miss the most is the students who do their absolute best and the pride you feel in their achievements, at whatever level,' she said.

'The feeling that you have made a difference in their lives.'

This message was echoed by all the retiring staff, who admitted that you never quite knew what to expect day-to-day, particularly from the students.
