Peace and quiet – and chaos – for Forest Road
PEACE and quiet will go hand in hand with 'chaos', warn Forest Road residents when major road closures are brought in and affect access to the airport.
During much of September, access will be from the west only.
Forest Road will be shut for three weeks between Les Nicolles and Le Chene from the 15th.
Rue des Landes/Le Bourg to Route de Roulias will be closed from the same day for five-and-a-half weeks to allow JT to extend its network.
Dave Le Cras, 32, pictured, who has lived on the road for two years, said the closure would make it hard for him to get to work.
'It is going to be a nightmare for work, as I leave at 8am and have to be back at 5pm,' he said.
'My wife is from the UK and doesn't know the lanes very well. Last time there was a diversion she ended up out at the Bon Port Hotel trying to get back.'
Guernsey Animal Aid Cats founder Sue Vidamour was concerned it would put people off going to the cattery. 'It is a long time that they are closing it for, it will be chaos around here.
'We have about 32 cats and kittens in at the moment and between 20 and 30 come to view them every week.'
The Environment Department defended closing so many roads at once, claiming it resulted in less disruption for islanders.
