Christmas ice rink to return at new location – Le Friquet
AN ICE rink will return to Guernsey this winter at a new venue, it has been revealed.
Market Street traders yesterday had conflicting feelings over the decision to move the attraction to Le Friquet.
Some felt they could lose out on trade while others believed the rink had just outgrown the area.
The ice rink is being backed by Sure and the rink will increase from 12.5m x 20m to 15m x 20m.
It will be based on the grass area next to the entrance of Le Friquet Garden Centre.
The Vape Bar co-owner Tina Dorfner supported the move.
Although she was not trading in the area at the time, she had heard from other businesses, what it was like when the ice rink was in operation.
'I know some shops said it was a bit chaotic with children running in and out of shops.
'I think the ice rink should come back, but just in a different location.'
Sonia Taylor, a spokeswoman for Market Street buildings' leaseholder, McAulay, said the atmosphere around Town last year without the rink was fantastic.
