STRUGGLES on Alderney's high street are continuing with news that another business is moving out.

Vicky Chandler has run Bella Hairdressers from her shop at the bottom of Victoria Street for around 10 years, but recent property tax rises voted through by Guernsey's States have forced her to now work as a mobile operator.

'I've been thinking about this for absolutely ages and it's been a really sad decision for me,' said Mrs Chandler.

'I think it was learning that Tax on Real Property was going up that finally made my mind up – I just realised the overheads were only going to go up.'

Alderney representative Louis Jean attempted to freeze Alderney's TRP rates during last week's Budget debate.

He failed after the vote was tied.

It means that Treasury's proposal to increase TRP 5% for domestic properties, 10% for commercial and 5% for retail remained.
