Talks on La Mare rebuild continue up until 11th hour
CRUNCH talks late into last night between Education and Treasury failed to find a compromise over plans to rebuild La Mare de Carteret schools.
Early this morning, Education minister Deputy Robert Sillars had still not ruled out further last-ditch talks ahead of today's States meeting, as his department strived to find a way to avoid an amendment being placed by chief minister Jonathan Le Tocq which could delay construction, but address Treasury and Resources' concerns over the project's size, scale and specification.
It came as the high school's head teacher, Vicky Godley, warned that a longer wait would damage staff morale and the hopes and self-worth of La Mare's students, who have themselves pleaded that they just want 'equal opportunities' to pupils with better buildings and facillities elsewhere in the island.
