Minister fears 'drastic' change to La Mare plans will change
CHANGES to the plans for the £60m. La Mare de Carteret Schools rebuild are 'almost certain' to be put forward by an independent review, Education board members have conceded.
It comes amid growing concerns that Education could be presented with a 'Guernsey fudge' and the size of the two schools could be scaled down.
As La Mare de Carteret students, teachers and the wider community digested the potential delay to the long-awaited project, Treasury minister Gavin St Pier revealed his department were already holding talks with Education in a bid to pick the review team this week and draw up their terms of reference.
Education minister Robert Sillars and his board has also categorically denied any suggestion that the La Mare de Carteret rebuild would have to wait for a decision on the future of the 11-plus.
Deputy Sillars said it was a 'potential worry' that the review panel would recommend drastic changes, but he was still holding onto the 'glimmer' of hope of getting the project back on track and returning to the States by February or March.
