Electric fault may be cause of fire
SMOKE, flames and sirens woke residents after a fire tore through a house in North Clifton, St Peter Port.
All the emergency services were called to the scene at 10.50pm on Monday to cope with the blaze in one of the newly-developed houses – reportedly caused by an electrical cable fault.
Nobody was inside the property at the time and the emergency services had all left the scene by 2.49am.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, lives with her daughter in a property 20ft from where the fire took place.
'My daughter called the police because she was sleeping in her room when suddenly her room became really bright – she knew something wasn't right. We went to the front door, opened it up and could see flames and smoke billowing out of the front and back of the building, it was quite scary to be honest because we were so close.'
Fire and Rescue Service duty officer Andy Mauger, pictured, said that 10 firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze, which was treated initially as if people were inside.
