Guidelines are produced for local drone use
THERE are rules and guidelines for the use of drones in the island and those flying them have a duty not to endanger anyone, the director of civil aviation has warned.
Drones, or small unmanned aircraft (those less than 20kg), are controlled by 'pilots' from the ground but are becoming increasingly advanced and widely used for photography, filming and surveys.
Director of civil aviation in Guernsey and Jersey Gus Paterson said that although there were a surprisingly small number of permits issued for the commercial use of drones in Guernsey, he had worked with Guernsey Airport to produce a simple set of guidelines to be followed by anyone who uses them, including people who have them at home and for a hobby.
There were some simple rules to follow for domestic use of drones, he said.
'Those who use the equipment at home have a general duty not to endanger nearby people and properties,' he said. 'You need to be really careful and exercise caution. It's about common sense, really.'
