On Sunday, roughly 120 former and current members of the congregation attended one of the last services to be held at Clifton, which will close on 8 February under the organisation's downsizing plans.

Speaking at the celebratory lunch that followed, Guernsey leader Major Jamie Hill said the day was very much about moving forward.

'It's not just about looking back, this weekend is really about looking forward,' he said.

'We're celebrating the 134 years that the Salvation Army has been on this island for and in this building and giving thanks for that.

'But the Salvation Army is about today and how we move forward, so today is very much about having renewed friendship with people who've been a part of this over the years, some of whom have come back to the island as visitors.'
