Edible Guernsey sets out to promote local food growing

A NEW growing initiative has been launched to drive interest in local food production.

Edible Guernsey is the charity behind the project which includes a community farm, a food directory listing local growers and providing educational opportunities.

The farm is at the former Sandpiper Vinery based at Plaisance, St Peter's, which has been secured on a 10-year lease. Planting will begin soon and the large greenhouse has been cleared, with help from some offenders with community service orders.

It is hoped that an old shed will also be converted into a farm shop.
