More delays to La Mare project

A FAILURE to agree over the size of the La Mare de Carteret rebuild will mean the new schools will now not open until, at least, September 2018.

Education and Treasury and Resources remain at loggerheads over the scope of the project and the former has today announced it will not take its new report and proposals to the States until April.

This will mean construction of the £60m. project will inevitably be hit and the opening of the schools postponed from September 2017 to September 2018 - with the potential for even later set backs.

The size of the schools appears to be the main stumbling block, however, it is understood that other key features of the project - including a large indoor sports hall and a dedicated hub for children with autism - will remain within its scope.

Talks between the departments have failed to bring unity following the yet-to-be-released independent rebuild review.
