Costs of industrial sites being looked at
AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the affordability of industrial sites.
Commerce and Employment is behind the review into the issue to address concerns over difficulties firms have in finding them.
Environment has also said that proposed and existing policies could allow redundant vineries to be used in certain circumstances, but that might not be the answer.
'Releasing vineries would not necessarily solve the problem because the moment such a piece of land is given change of use, its value immediately increases and the owner may then want a commensurately higher rent,' said a spokesman.
Housing minister Dave Jones said the two departments would have to find 'affordable' sites for businesses using the temporary Fontaine site, within Belgrave Vinery, before the land could be used for housing.
