The accident, which happened at the College of Further Education's Delancey campus late last week, saw a two-and-half-square-metre section of arched lath and plaster ceiling fall onto the staff member. No students were injured in the accident.

An Education Department spokeswoman said the accident had led to all similar ceilings undergoing checks.

'A member of staff was hit by some debris which fell from approximately two metres and was taken to Accident and Emergency for treatment,' she said.

'The member of staff did not require admission to hospital but has been signed off work for a couple of days.'
