Nurses are 'exhausted and on their knees'

Minister Paul Luxon said that recruitment plans, which could include £3.1m. to fund 71 extra nurses and medical staff, were part of a package that would put patient and staff safety at the forefront of the department's aims.

But the RCN's Lindsay Meeks has hit out at the largest States department – which spends a third of the entire government budget – for allowing the situation to become so bad.

Years of cutbacks, she said, had taken their toll.

It was all well and good stating extra hands were needed, she said, but finding the right sort was another matter entirely.
