St Anne's head quits after teaching quality protests
ST ANNE'S SCHOOL'S head teacher has quit after a storm of protest about teaching quality from parents and pupils.
Suzanne Young, pictured, was recruited on a two-year secondment in September. But parents and pupils have since sent a stream of letters to Alderney States members and Education raising concerns.
Worries included the system of maths tuition, as well as more wide-ranging issues such as poor leadership, lacklustre lessons and insufficient resources.
Education minister Robert Sillars and Education chief officer Jon Buckland visited the school and met Alderney States members last Monday.
Education has since released a statement saying: 'The Education Department can confirm that the head teacher of St Anne's School, Suzanne Young, has decided, for personal reasons, to leave St Anne's and return to her substantive post of deputy head teacher in Guernsey.
'Miss Young says she has enjoyed her time working in Alderney and wishes all the staff and students well for the future.'
Miss Young, who left her post as deputy head of Les Beaucamps to go to Alderney, was yesterday unavailable for comment.
