The P&O cruise ship was the biggest to visit since new landing arrangements were put in place, which sees the loss of some short-term spaces at the pier and bus terminus.
Thursday's visit also coincided with the first morning of the new seafront road layout that includes a safer informal crossing point.
Some of the first passengers off the ship said they were happy with the arrangements and were greeted by a warm welcome, although the sea was a 'bit choppy'.
Later in the day some struggled with the pontoon ramp at Albert Pier at low tide, including Peter Stringer, 70, who has had a triple bypass and suffers with arthritis.
'It was a bit steep for me,' he said.
His wife, Denise, 56, added: 'The problem is going to be going back down.'
