By jiminy, rare insect is caught

A CRICKET that was once thought to be extinct in Guernsey has been caught by a Vale resident.

Fran Torode, who lives at L'Ancresse, found the mole cricket when she was in her garden digging.

'I saw it scuttle and then took it to the greenhouse and covered it in plastic,' she said. 'I last saw one 35 years ago, it is very exciting. I can't believe how lucky I am to see two – or the same one twice.'

She planned to wait to show her partner before letting it back out into the wild.
