Preservation of Vale Mill behind plans
DEVELOPERS behind plans for a unique home in Vale Mill have said they are keen to preserve the building for the future.
Vale Mill Ltd directors Roger Perrot and Richard Ridout, pictured, purchased the protected building in 2008 for £57,000.
Since then they have purchased the access road, a nearby field and a quarry in preparation for turning it into a useful structure.
Now they have applied for planning permission to convert it into a two-bedroom home.
Mr Ridout said they were keen to put the empty building to use.
'Roger likes old things and we were attracted as the mill was so different,' he said.
'We could just see it falling into disrepair, so we thought we would buy it so we could preserve it.
'We think it is a fantastic piece of Guernsey.'
The building was constructed in 1854 to process corn and wheat, but the sails were removed in 1934 and it was taken over by the German forces during the Occupation for use as an observation post.
