In total, the Association of Guernsey Charities received £291,512.31 from 2014 ticket sales and, following a change in the law, unclaimed prize money from 2013.

That was nearly 40% up on the previous year.

Unclaimed prizes from 2012 and preceding years added a one-off payment of just over £97,000 to the amount going to charities.

St Matthew's Community Centre LBG launched a fundraising campaign in conjunction with The Guernsey Press in June to raise the £1.6m needed to complete the Cobo Community Centre.

The £20,000 grant from the AGC leaves it just £22,000 short of the £1m. mark.

'The board is very grateful that we have been accepted as a recipient of lottery money this year,' said director Joyce Bradshaw, pictured with Colin Guilbert.

Work is due for completion by July so tenancies can begin in early September.

Donations towards the project can be made, payable to Cobo Community Centre, at any HSBC branch using sort code 40-22-25 and account number 44126610. Cheques and donations can also been sent to SMCC financial director Pauline Mahy at Les Palmiers, Grandes Rocques, Castel, GY5 7FR. For more information contact Mrs Mahy on 257885.
