A cross-departmental project will examine different cost-effective and sustainable models.

And as part of that, the States is looking to recruit a project manager for a year to research the options and costs.

The review follows the critical Lightfoot Review into the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service and an emergency deal struck last year by the Civil Contingencies Authority.

Before being overruled, Health and Social Services was looking to take over the service.

HSSD deputy chief officer Richard Evans said a steering committee was put in place following Lightfoot and the CCA's decision.

Its role was to oversee the non-medical aspects of services during St John's four-year contract period.

This body will be responsible for developing the future operating model for emergency ambulance and patient transport services.

'In order to achieve this, it will look at options for the future provision of a road ambulance service in Guernsey and other key strategic planning for the future service,' he said.
