Planners admit outfall chamber will do little to enhance area

DESPITE numerous objections about a proposed outfall chamber  – which would reach nearly two metres above the Belle Greve sea wall – planners have advised that it should be given planning permission.

However, they have conceded that the essential structure will do little to enhance the area.

The Guernsey Water project involves replacing the outfall pipe and creating a new building on the foreshore to house the above ground section of the pipework.

Angry residents have suggested using an existing building instead, but Guernsey Water rejected this saying it is needed as a pumping station.

While the plans have been scaled back – from 13 metres long and 1.9m high to 10 metres long and 1.7m high – residents feel it will still be an eyesore.

Seven letters of objection were submitted against the application from 10 different people.
