The Lt-Governor, Air Marshal Peter Walker, proposed a toast to honour Les Bourgs Hospice director Jo Boyd, who has been made an MBE, and Boys' Brigade captain Steve England, who received a BEM for services to the organisation.

'I'm really pleased this year that we've got recognition not just for individuals but organisations – it's fantastic we've got a youth organisation recognised like the Boys Brigade and then Les Bourgs Hospice, which is very dear to people's hearts, especially as it's funded entirely by charitable donations,' said Air Marshal Walker.

He added it was wonderful that charities the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation and the Alderney Cancer Relief Trust had also been awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE for organisations.

'They're all fantastic organisations which reflect the best of Guernsey and the Bailiwick and I'm overjoyed.'
