Home seeks changes to gambling legislation
BOOKMAKERS will be allowed to open on Sunday and Crown and Anchor could be played indoors, if deputies give their backing to the Home Department's latest proposals.
As part of the department's recommendation, due to go before the States next month, certain types of gaming machine will also be allowed to operate subject to a licensing regime and fixed-odds betting terminals could be introduced.
Legislation surrounding gambling for charitable purposes will also be modernised.
However, in its report the Home Department said it also wanted to ensure that help and support was available to people with gambling problems and has proposed to divert a proportion of gambling fees received into assisting with problem gamblers.
The States approved a range of proposals which sought to modernise and regularise the island's gambling regime back in 2007.
The Home Department said it would continue to review whether an entire gambling legislative framework was necessary as originally proposed seven years ago.
