Quay crossing 'not being used properly'

DISRUPTION would be minimised and police supervision 'unnecessary' if the island in the middle of the Town Quay courtesy crossing was used properly, according to Living Streets Guernsey.

The charity, which campaigns for safer streets and public places for people on bikes or foot, urged pedestrians to not expect to be able to cross the road 'in one go'.

'It has not been designed for that purpose,' said the group's chairman, Tom Le Pelley.

'The island in the middle is wide enough for groups of people or parents with buggies to wait between each section of the road.
