Video: Cobo Community Centre 'is a dream come true'
A LONG-AWAITED dream has finally come true for the volunteers behind the new £1.6m. Cobo Community Centre as work is set to be completed by the end of the month.
Final touches, including carpet fittings, lighting and toilet installations, are currently being done ahead of the building being handed over on 31 July and activities beginning from 7 September.
Joyce Bradshaw, a director of the Cobo Community Centre committee, said it had been a terrific achievement by all those involved.
'We have stood true to the project over the last 15 years and there is no doubt from the comments we are getting and the interest from everybody that it is going to be a tremendous asset,' she said.
'Many of us have worked in areas where we have not be able to see any tangible achievements, but with this there is a real sense of achievement.
'It is a dream come true.'
So far more than £1m. has been raised, but the committee still needs to secure a further £150,000 so that the securities put in place to complete the build are honoured.
