Miss Widdecombe described the WI as an important organisation that is vital to many women.
'It supplies an opportunity to get together and the WI does a lot of work around the world, it's not just about making jam as some people seem to think. It is very, very British and is one of our great institutions,' she said.
On her whistle-stop trip of the island, Miss Widdecombe was the speaker at two WI events and also found time to appear at the Press Shop to take part in a book-signing event.
