The school currently has about 100 pupils with special needs between the ages of three and 11.

'The children have been finding out about what a decade is and how things have changed over that time,' said head teacher Paula Sullivan, who is also head of Forest Primary.

'They know now, for instance, that YouTube is 10 years old as well.'

As well as a birthday cake, pupils enjoyed a range of activities, including two bouncy castles.

The day took on a pirate theme.

Mrs Sullivan said no pirate themed day would be complete without a treasure hunt, which was on offer too.

An open day will be held at the school today for pupils, staff and parents, past and present.
