The company's executive chairman Russell Kew has issued a 'heartfelt apology' for the problems which beset the company last week.

After a meeting between the Policy Council's External Transport Group and Condor on Wednesday, the group issued a statement in which it accepted that:

n it was not viable for Condor to invest in an additional ferry for the UK route or bring one in while the Clipper is in dry dock

n there was no alternative to scheduling the Clipper for maintenance at this time, leaving just the Liberation to carry passengers

n the contingency plan it agreed with Condor – involving extra sailings, putting people in hotels, on flights or travelling via France with a different operator – had been implemented

n that timely updates had been released by the company via its website, social media, text and emails.

Both sides did accept, however, that communication could be better. Bad weather disrupted sailings last Friday, before a fault in the exhaust led to cancellations and an angry response from passengers, some of whom were also stranded when the company overbooked Sunday's sailing.
