Mental health facility gets finishing touches
A COLOURFUL, airy, state-of-the-art mental health facility is set to be completed within weeks as builders put the finishing touches to the project.
It has taken 18 months and £24m. to transform the area at the south-west of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital site, a project that was hit by a fire and problems with structural steel.
Mental health service manager Colin Vines said the two-storey structure was a big improvement on current facilities at the Castel Hospital.
'The whole thing has been designed to be bright, airy and friendly,' said Mr Vines.
'We had to build something that was secure and safe, but we did not want it to be a prison.'
The colour theme helps identify the different parts of the building – purple for mental health rooms, green for older people and yellow and orange for the day centre.
