The 2015 Sovereign Art Foundation Schools Prize is aimed at celebrating the importance of art in the education system and recognises the quality of the work produced by local students.

Founded in 2003, the Foundation charity has already run three schools prizes in Hong Kong and two in Bahrain, but this will be its first in Europe.

'We'd known that there have been art prizes before in Guernsey and we decided as newcomers to the island to see whether we could launch our own,' said Sovereign Trust (Channel Islands) Ltd managing director Stephen Hare.

'We canvassed schools earlier this year to see if there was interest and the feedback was very positive.'

Each school has been invited to submit the 10 best works of art produced by students. A shortlist of 12 will then established.
