AVERAGE class sizes at St Martin's Primary School have grown by two pupils each since the closure of St Andrew's School, but everyone is integrating well, according to the head teacher.

The school does face several problems, including busy lunch breaks and morning traffic jams.

St Andrew's closed in the summer, with St Martin's taking the majority of the pupils.

That has resulted in the school growing from around 500 pupils 10 years ago to 575 now.

Head teacher Cate Mason said a lot of work had been done to get pupils to integrate and things were going smoothly.

'Average class sizes are now 26.1,' she said. 'Before it was about 24. The children have all settled in very quickly and we've found they were quick to adjust.'
