Acting Lt-Governor Sir Richard Collas presented Captain Stephen England with the British Empire Medal in front of an invited audience of family, colleagues and friends.

Captain England was awarded the BEM in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours List, in June, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the young people of Guernsey. He has been an active member of the Boys' Brigade for more than 45 years, serving as the band's lead drummer for 42 years. Under his leadership the organisation funded and constructed its own purpose-built kayak store, complete with shower facilities, which it makes available to many other local youth organisations. It has also incorporated the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme into its activities.

Captain England said many people in Guernsey did fantastic work with youngsters and it made him wonder how a single person could be selected for such an award.
