She went to Windsor Castle to be presented with the award.

Mrs Boyd was one of two Guernsey residents to be recognised in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours List, along with Captain Stephen England, who received the BEM for services to the Boys' Brigade.

'The ceremony was beautiful, the Queen was lovely, it was wonderful,' she said.

Mrs Boyd said she was nervous beforehand and those waiting with her to receive an award were 'petrified' of falling over.

Mrs Boyd said her majesty made her feel like the most special person in the room and that it was a magical day.

She received the award for service to hospice care.
