Edinburgh-based PE specialist Kari Spence has come over to Guernsey to see a Growth Mindset school in action at Vauvert Primary, where pupils are educated on the basis that intelligence can grow, rather than be fixed. They are taught to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks and learn from feedback and mistakes.

Miss Spence, who works with the alternative academy at the Spartans Football Academy and two primary schools, said she had been so impressed by the mindset, attitude and classroom philosophy of the children that she could not wait to take ideas back to Scotland with her.

'I'm amazed by what I have seen,' she said.
