£2-a-head charge plan for sport at L'Ancresse

A 'USER PAYS' scheme could be introduced for all sports activities and events on L'Ancresse Common under the latest proposal to come out of the long-running dispute over the land.

Under the scheme, any such users of the common could face charges of £2 per person, if the idea from the Vale Commons Council is agreed.

Details were unveiled at a recent presentation to deputies, after the council rejected proposals for a new lease with the golf clubs.

At a press conference yesterday, the council and its working party spoke about making the most of the area.

Roger Dadd, secretary for the working party, said they wanted to maximise the area and it was 'time to share'.

'This is about the whole of the common and the whole of the island population,' he said. 'It needs to be looked after.'
