Pick a tree for GSPCA

HUNDREDS of Guernsey-grown Christmas trees will be ready for islanders to cut down today to raise money for the GSPCA.

A St Sampson's field owner planted around 900 slow-growing blue spruces eight years ago, and planned for a charity to benefit from the trees.

Now they have matured, with some stretching up to 6ft-high.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said he was very grateful to the field owner for choosing the charity as beneficiary, as the trees will help generate much-needed funds for the shelter.

The field is off Route du Braye – between Oatlands and A. J. Troalic and Sons – and will be signposted tomorrow, with parking in the field. Islanders can bring their own saws or spades, depending on whether they want to cut the tree down or dig it up, but tools will be available.

Anyone unable to transport their tree can ask the GSPCA to deliver it, for an extra donation.

Volunteers will be on site from about 10am until 4pm today.
