The Guernsey Rugby Club re-branded themselves as Guernsey Raiders in the summer, and held a competition for school pupils to propose a name and a mascot.
Reuben Montgomery, a Year 5 pupil at Notre Dame, won the competition and his school was treated to a surprise visit yesterday by members of Guernsey Raiders and their new mascot.
Manager of the men's first team, Megan Jones, said that Reuben's idea was just what they were looking for. 'We got a whole range of ideas, some more workable than others.
'We liked the name "Rocky the Raider" because it's linked to how Guernsey is known as "the rock" and it's a strong word too.'
